Reason for the award

Hoshi Sanda deserves recognition as an Outstanding Character because she is one of the most vivid, fully realized, and emotionally compelling characters in Star Army’s YSS Resurgence plot. She is not just a “soldier character” or an action lead. She is a deeply developed person whose strengths, flaws, loyalties, relationships, trauma, courage, and growth all matter to the story.

Sanda is a Nepleslian-born Star Army Ranger and infantry officer serving aboard the YSS Resurgence. She is tough, direct, and intensely protective, but also carrying the pressure of serving in a military culture that is not originally her own. Her bio is fully developed and her roleplay history spans years of active RP and meaningful development.

What makes Sanda especially deserving is the way she combines battlefield competence with emotional realism. She is brave without being invincible, loyal without being bland, and strong without being simple. In missions such as Hellgrinder, she leads under pressure, protects her teammates, and keeps moving through fear, pain, and exhaustion. In El Dorado and other Resurgence missions, she is not just firing weapons or taking orders; she is making judgment calls, reacting as a real person to danger, loss, and responsibility, and helping shape the emotional tone of the crew. Her anger, devotion, vulnerability, and determination all feel earned.

She’s also become a leader, providing the away team with a direction. As a game master, I like that because want the plot to unfold organically instead of me just telling the players where to go through a GM NPC. I like the excitement of them finding their own path and Hoshi is that character other characters turn to when they’re not sure where to go.

Sanda also stands out because she helps make the whole ensemble crew stronger. She creates tension, camaraderie, humor, and dramatic stakes for everyone around her. She is the kind of character other players can bounce off of, rely on, worry about, argue with, and care about. That is one of the clearest signs of an outstanding sim character: she is not only memorable on her own, but essential to the life of the larger story.
