Reason for the award
Aaron, the doctor, is based on the character “House” from the series of the same name. He is a curmudgeon who dislikes people, does not suffer fools, and wants to be left alone. He’s a diagnostician and loves medical puzzles to solve. While he will do his job and help the crew when they need a doctor, he will not socialize and he hates checkups. He also loathes the counselor who has incredibly bad luck with relationships and likes to tell the doctor what he needs to ”fix.” The only person the doctor tolerates is the commanding officer. So far.
He, like Dr. House, has an injury. Doctor Marcus’ injury is from a transporter malfunction that left him with a damaged leg—and a subsequent addiction to pain medication.
Tox is his head nurse and is cheerful and bubbly. Tox has decided that “Mr. Grumpypants” needs to lighten up. He’s made it his mission to help fix the doctor. Tos has his own problems with the chief flight control officer, which seems to make him more determined to make other people happy.
In this post, Tox has a legitimate medical emergency that needs the doctor’s attention. You get to see their problematic working relationship as well as Aaron’s dedication to helping the injured. It’s a nice contrast from the usual back-and-forth banter and you get to see why they have the positions they do. It’s a good post that helps deepen character development and lets us like the doctor just a little bit more.
