Reason for the award

“Xavier is a troubled pilot who was picked on by his family and doesn’t feel like he belongs anywhere. His only friend is a penpal from the Academy. He doesn’t know who the other person is, but over the years that friend has become his lifeline.

He has two “”emotional support”” crows he takes with him everywhere. He does not like the new nurse on the ship and does not realize this is his penpal. But everyone else on the ship is quickly figuring it out. The character is odd and quirky—and a great pilot.
